Ocean
Institute Presents 27th Annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival
Dana Point, CALIF., May 26, 2011 – The
Ocean Institute will present its 27th annual Toshiba Tall Ships
Festival, the largest annual gathering of tall ships on the West Coast, the
weekend of September 9-11, 5-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday
& Sunday. Come and explore the majesty and wonder of tall ships through the
smells, sounds and sights of real working tall ships. Interactive living-history encampments, including blacksmiths,
scrimshaw artists, knot tiers, and the infamous Port Royal Privateers, are sure
to entertain and amaze guests of all ages.
Inside the Ocean Institute, explore our work protecting the local
watersheds through hands-on labs and art activities, and get up-close and
personal with some of the ocean’s most amazing sea creatures, including sea
stars, jellies, rays and octopuses.
New this year at the Festival, travel
back in time and explore what life was like as a pirate! Set out on an exciting treasure hunt, deciphering clues and following
the mysterious trail to its end, or participate in hands-on, family-friendly
classes to discover lost seafaring arts. The past will come alive with the story of pirates who dropped anchor
right here in Dana Point!
These are just some of the fun & exciting activities that will be a
part of this year’s spectacular Toshiba Tall Ships Festival. Come celebrate with us as we celebrate
the area’s rich maritime history!
