"Build-a-Boat Challenge" Comes to Ocean Institute, Spectators Welcome to Attend

DANA POINT, CA, April 25, 2007 - Spectators are invited to watch the Ocean Institute's 4th annual "Build-a-Boat Challenge," a one-day contest in which participants design, build and race their own boats, on Saturday, June 16, 1 - 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Al Larson Boat Shop and raises funds for the preservation of the Institute’s tall ships Pilgrim and Spirit of Dana Point.

The competition will be held at Baby Beach, alongside the Ocean Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Blvd., Dana Point. Participants must be part of a corporation-sponsored team, but spectators are welcome free of charge.

Each team is supplied with limited resources and given four hours in which to build a boat. Once the boats are completed, they are taken to nearby Baby Beach where they participate in a race. Many, to the enjoyment of spectators and participants alike, sink before reaching the finish line.

For additional information, please see the Ocean Institute website at www.ocean-institute.org, or call Ellen Meese at (949) 496-2274, ext. 412.
