Create a Unique Maritime Valentine's Day Gift
Onboard the Institute's Tall Ship Pilgrim
DANA POINT, CA, January 11, 2008 - Get ready for Valentine's Day by making a
sailor's Valentine onboard the tall ship Pilgrim on Sunday, February 3, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the
Ocean Institute.
In the 1850's, sailors passing by the Island of Barbados purchased special Valentines
made of seashells arranged in elegant patterns inside of a special box for their loved ones.
Recreate this maritime tradition under the guidance of Pilgrim crewmembers while making a
beautiful gift for your special someone. Participants are encouraged to bring their own heart-
shaped candy box and a photograph of their sweetheart.
Admission to the Institute is $6 adults, $4 children (ages 4-12), Ocean Institute members
free. A $5 additional donation is requested to cover the cost of supplies for the Valentines.
