Public Invited to Join in Mock Cannon Battles in
Ocean Institute's "Duel of the Privateers"
DANA POINT, CA, January 3, 2008 - Hear the cannons roar and watch tall ships engage
in battle maneuvers in an exciting re-enactment of a 19th century sea skirmish between the Spirit
of Dana Point and Lynx, where everything is real but the cannon balls. The "Duel of the
Privateers" mock battles will be held on Saturday and Sunday, February 2 & 3, 1-4 p.m. There
will be dockside tours of both ships 10 a.m. to noon.
Reserve your spot onboard one of the ships by calling (949) 496-2274. The cost is $55
adults, $25 children (ages 4-12). For members of the Ocean Institute: $49 adults, $22 children.
Boarding for the Spirit is alongside the Ocean Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Blvd., Dana
Point.
Ongoing Activities
The Ocean Institute is open to the public on weekends, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Visitors can
enjoy ongoing exhibits, view hundreds of living ocean animals, and witness shark and jellyfish
feedings. Cost is $6 adults, $4 children. Or, with the purchase of a membership, a family can
enjoy year-round free admission, benefit from member-only events and receive discounts on all
