Ocean Institute Offers Exciting Tall Ship Summer Camps for Parents & Children
DANA POINT, CA, May 12, 2008 - The Ocean Institute is offering two exciting tall ship summer camps for parents and their children. The programs use the Institute's two tallships, Pilgrim and Spirit of Dana Point; each child participant must be accompanied by an adult:
Pilgrim Overnight (age 8+)
During this family version of our award-winning 4th grade overnight program, you will play the role of sailors onboard in the 1830s! Rig and handle the ship's machinery, search for bullock-hides in Mexico, and experience the hard work of standing night-watch and swabbing the decks!
July 12 & August 2, 3 p.m. until 9 a.m. the next day. $70 ($65 members).
Voyage to Avalon (8+)
Join the crew of the Spirit for a sunset dinner at sea during the overnight motor-transit to Catalina. In the morning, explore the charming town of Avalon and then sail the Spirit home; with the wind! Take part in traditions such as night-watch, story-telling, chantey singing and knot tying, as well as sailing.
June 7, 27 & July 19, 5:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. the next day. $195 ($175 members).
