Ocean Institute Presents 24th Annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival
DANA POINT, CA, May 21, 2008 - The Ocean Institute will present its 24th annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival, the largest annual gathering of tall ships on the West Coast, the weekend of September 5-7, 5-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday.
The festival will feature a spectacular array of family-fun activities including a pirate encampment, live sea-faring music, art shows and a variety of tasty food. Enjoy maritime displays and demonstrations, music concerts, Polynesian dancing, pirates, and dramatic sunset cannon battles. Explore the historic tall ships and listen to the crew share tales of adventure and life at sea. Come inside the Ocean Institute and experience live parrot shows, pirate games, music, woodcarving, ship models and special presentations. Join us for a weekend of fun and adventure as we celebrate the area's rich maritime history.
Live entertainment includes the musical duet of William Pint and Felicia Dale. They deliver a performance with dynamic vocals and exciting instrumental fireworks.

Visitors have the opportunity to take a cruise on board a tall ship or enjoy festivities on shore. Admission to the arts & crafts show, live entertainment and access to the food vendor area is free. Admission to tour the tall ships and Ocean Education Center is $11 adults, $9 children ages 3-12. (For members, $6.50 adults and $4.50 children.) Parking is free.

10th Annual Regatta September 4-7
During the weekend of the 2008 Tall Ships Festival, the Dana Point Yacht Club will present the 10th Annual Richard Henry Charity Regatta benefiting the Ocean Institute.
The Regatta kicks off on Thursday, September 4th with a Marine Corps Twilight Fishing Tournament. Up to 60 Marines will go to sea on a boat donated by Dana Wharf Sportfishing, and will enjoy pizza donated by Beach Cities Pizza. For $100, the public can sponsor a Marine.
Friday evening, a Sponsor's and VIP reception and dinner will be held at the Ocean Institute with live entertainment.
On Saturday and Sunday, racing for both PHRF and non-spinnaker classes will be held at the same time that a fishing tournament will take place. Junior sabot racing will also take place on Saturday morning. Saturday evening, a gala dinner and auction will start at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Dana Point Yacht Club. All events are open to the public.
