Torcaso, who reports from the corporation's Irvine office, will continue Toshiba's long-standing support of the Ocean Institute and its mission of educating school children to the wonders of the ocean and the power of science.

"Michael Torcaso brings to our board the degree of professionalism and financial acumen we need to achieve the next level of excellence as an educational non-profit," commented Dan Stetson, president of the non-profit Ocean Institute. "Michael joins our board of distinguished men and women whose leadership and experience is fundamental to our continued success."

As the president and chief financial officer of TABS, Torcaso leads the company's financial planning and accounting functions, including all U.S. and Latin America subsidiary operations. Other areas he oversees include: leasing, internal and external audit coordination, treasury functions and Japan's Financial Instruments and Exchange Law (J-Sox), Japan's Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Prior to joining TABS in 2000, Mr. Torcaso was with Toshiba America Information Systems Inc where he served as controller, PC Manufacturing. Torcaso is a certified public accountant with experience in public accounting, aerospace, semiconductor and technology. He has also worked for respected financial institutions including Rockwell International, Merrill Lynch and Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young).

TABS is the key sponsor and advocate for the annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival hosted by the Ocean Institute. "This unique event has become a signature event for Orange County," observed Mr. Stetson. "This year, tall ships from around the world will join our two tall ships, the Pilgrim and the Spirit of Dana Point, for a weekend that celebrates the courage and craftsmanship of a bygone era. We are proud once again to partner with Toshiba for the 24th Toshiba Tall Ships Festival September 6 and 7."
