Festival of Arts Pageant of the Masters Festival of Arts Pageant of the Masters
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to promote, produce, and sponsor events and activities that encourage the appreciation, study and performance of the arts. It's been 75 years since the first "living pictures" made their debut at the Festival of Arts, and the 2008 Pageant will honor its historical roots with another stunning display of theatrical illusion and artistry. Celebrating the longstanding love affair between artists and the performing arts in every culture, All The World's A Stage will venture behind the scenes as painters and sculptors share their fascination with the actors, dancers, musicians and movie stars whose lives and works have inspired countless artworks. From the slapstick antics of Italy's traveling troupes of the Commedia dell'arte, to legendary stage luminaries like Miss Sarah Bernhardt, to unforgettable settings like the dancehalls and cabarets of Paris, the Pageant will prove once again there's a "method" to the its unique brand of theatrical magic. Taking its cue from Shakespeare's play, All The World's a Stage promises another breathtaking summer of "living pictures" presented "As You Like It http://www.foapom.com/?skipvid=1
Hobie Alter. He started out shaping surfboards, he ended up shaping a culture. Considering this is the story of one man's great imagination, to fully grasp the story of Hobie you need to start by using your imagination. Imagine it is summer vacation 1950 and young Hobart "Hobie" Alter hits on an idea to bring together his two loves, woodshop and water. He asks his dad to pull the Desoto out of the family's Laguna Beach, California garage, and the history of surfing was about to enter a new era. Hobie began by building beautiful 9-foot balsawood icons for his friends. They worked well! Hobie's hobby had become a business and his dream of never owning hard-soled shoes or having to work east of California's Pacific Coast Highway was becoming a reality. A couple of years and 40 tons of sawdust later, Hobie opened up Southern California's first surf shop in Dana Point, California. http://www.hobie.com/

miocean: Reducing Local Ocean Pollution
Our vision is to apply a business approach to solving water-quality and ocean pollution issues by collaborating with government agencies, corporations, small businesses, and individuals.

Our first project takes place at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. Working closely with the City of Dana Point, and the State Water Resource Control Board, Miocean has acted as a catalyst for a project that will divert polluted urban run-off from Doheny State Beach to a sanitary treatment plant close by. Miocean has pledged $100,000 toward the project. Our ultimate vision for the future is a clean, clear, pollution-free ocean. http://www.miocean.org/mission.asp

The Sawdust Festival is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public and promoting the art created in Laguna Beach.

Since its inception, the nonprofit Sawdust Art Festival organization has celebrated and supported the work of local artists. Designed to both entertain and educate, the Sawdust Art Festival draws more than 200,000 visitors from across the country each year. Visitors are invited to shop along sawdust-covered paths through a hand-crafted village of fine arts and superb craftsmanship.

The Festival also features demo booths such as glass blowing, complimentary hands-on art workshops, a children¹s art booth, refreshments from three restaurants and a saloon, live music and more. The Sawdust Art Festival sets itself apart from Laguna Beach¹s other summer art festivals in that it is nonjuried, so it plays a vital role in supporting the careers of many local artists.

The Sawdust has expanded from its beginnings as a small show on a vacant lot to a 9-week festival situated on a three-acre eucalyptus grove, complete with waterfalls, in Laguna Canyon. Along the way, the Sawdust has become the city¹s most popular summer art festival, drawing higher paid attendance than any other summer festival. http://sawdustartfestival.org
