2003 : Watersheds
December 1, 2003 - Ocean Institute 5th Graders to Demonstrate Their Knowledge of Watersheds in Ocean Institute's
Kids Conference on Watersheds
The Ocean Institute will welcome 5th grade students for a three-day Kids' Conference on Watersheds this January. The students will present their findings from their participation in "One Tier Back: A Watershed Education Program," presented by the Institute with support from the County of Orange Public Facilities and Resources Department. The program gave students the opportunity to study the environmental impact of human behavior on the watershed, an area of land which drains into a lake or river. In October, students studied meteorology, internal systems, currents, water cycle, investigation techniques and watershed science. "One Tier Back" refers to those communities 5-20 miles from the coast.
