Our Ocean Education Center houses a 16,000-gallon system of small aquaria designed to support the educational programs and provide for public display. The live teaching collection comprises an excess of 160 species and over 1,200 specimens of local marine life. The husbandry staff procures and maintains live representatives of our local ecosystems for students of all ages to observe the marine flora and fauna up close and appreciate their splendor.
Our garden, located behind the Ocean Institute’s main facilities, features six communities of plants native to coastal Southern California. This garden acts as a home and food source to small animals while providing pollen to birds and insects alike.
