Thank you for donating school supplies!

We were thrilled with the success of our school supply drive during the Parade of Lights Viewing Party to benefit local schools. Thanks to your generosity we were able to deliver bags full of crayons, markers, pencils, and paper to Clarence Lobo, Las Palmas, Del Obispo, San Juan, and Palisades Elementary Schools. We would like to join the principals of these schools in saying thank you to all who contributed!

Artist by the Sea: An Evening with Bob McKnight and Greg MacGillivray
March 18th | 7:00PM
Join us Thursday, March 18th for an illuminating evening as we dive into the surf culture with two pioneers who helped introduce the sport to new audiences throughout the world. Bob McKnight, co-founder of Quiksilver, Inc., and IMAX filmmaker Greg MacGillivray, co-founder of MacGillivray Freeman Films, will take us on a journey from their early days of filming surf movies to the multi-billion dollar sport it has become.
Bob McKnight has turned his passion for surfing into a $2.5 billion company by creating Quiksilver, Inc., one of the world’s strongest lifestyle brands. Quiksilver, Inc. was the first boardriding company to break through a billion dollars in revenue, provide 100% sponsorship to its surfers, and the first to create a multi-media entertainment portal. Bob will discuss his early adventures in filming surf movies and how it inspired him to launch the board sports lifestyle.
Greg MacGillivray is internationally known for producing some of the most popular IMAX films in the history of filmmaking, like Everest, The Living Sea, and Coral Reef Adventure, however he got his start by making surf films such as Free and Easy and Five Summer Stories. In his upcoming film, Greg re-visits his roots by filming a documentary of Hollywood's relationship with the surfing industry.
Join Bob and Greg as they talk about their passion for surfing, show image and film clips, and discuss how they successfully drew international attention to a sport that was mainly limited to coastal regions.

Knobby Sea Star
If you have ever had the pleasure to go tidepooling, then you already know that seastars are the most popular creatures inhabiting those pools -- especially among the younger crowd. Tidepool excursions are a wonderful experience: the sound of surf accompanied by the refreshing sea breeze are reason enough to go.
With bright blue and purple highlighting their spines, the Knobby Sea Star (Pisaster giganteus) is sure to catch your eye peeking out from under a rocky ledge. Like all sea stars, the Knobby Sea Stars common off our coast use their tube feet for locomotion. The tube feet operate on a water vascular system. This operation aids in feasting on mussels, snails, and barnacles. They pry open hard-shelled animals using their tube feet, and then surround the prey with their stomach.
