The Ocean Institute is proud to present an exciting new addition to our popular Arts and Lecture Series:
Participants will have
the opportunity to work "up close and personal" with professional artists with ocean education and inspiration in mind.
Follow in the footsteps of our artists as they share how the world's oceans have inspired them and have the opportunity
to create your own masterpiece.
The ocean is the perfect place to foster creativity and fun, and what better doorway to the ocean than the Ocean Institute!

| June 26th: Karen Talbot
Imagine life in the ocean off the coast of Southern California. Whether living in a tidepool, on a rocky reef or in a kelp forest, each animal is beautifully adapted to its own unique habitat. With brush or pen in hand, dive into this amazing world with Laguna Beach artist and educator Karen Talbot, and see firsthand how these animal's amazing adaptations make them as fun to draw as they are to observe.Karen's firsthand experience as a surfer, diver, angler, and artist will inspire your exploration of the Pacific Ocean through hands-on activities leading to the creation of your own masterpiece, which, in turn, will inspire others to explore, appreciate and conserve our precious ocean habitat.

July 17th: Barbara Hughston- In the Kitchen with Kids
Barbara Hughston and her daugher, Kate, love spending time together in the kitchen creating delicious and healthy food. During this class participants will use the freshest and best ingredients to create Healthy Summer Snacks for the Beach. With a focus on reusable packaging and locally grown produce, children will take home a lesson in sustainability and gain confidence in the kitchen while having a great time in the inspiring setting at the Ocean Institute.

July 24th: Derek Sabori - Lu and the Earth Bug Crew
Join the author, Derek Sabori for a morning of storytelling, light eco-lessons and creative insight. Derek will break down the story behind the story and engage the kids in the idea of seeing a problem and tackling it by way of book writing. The Earth Bugs were born from the act of battling the Litter Bugs and the hope is that kids will be inspired to tell an Earth Bug story of their own. There will be coloring and eco-crafts for the younger children and an author/publisher focused build your own book project for the older kids.

| August 28th: Shaun Tomson - Surf Creatures A-Z
Join the professional Surfer and author as he introduces you to a world of unusual creatures that live in the surf zone from his book, "Surf Creatures A-Z".
Shaun Tomson is the author of Surfer’s Code and the producer of the award winning documentary Bustin’ Down the Door. He is a businessman and environmentalist and lives in
Santa Barbara, California with his wife Carla and son Luke.
