Voyage to Catalina Island aboard the schooner Spirit of Dana Point. This camp draws participants into the life of tallship sailing and reveals the rich marine resources of a beautiful California island. Day one of camp will orient the new sailors to the vessel by learning the routine of shipboard life, along with sail theory and boat building. The next three days at sea team up new and professional crew in working a 68 ton, eighteenth century tallship by sailing, navigating, learning rope work, and standing night watch, all while learning maritime history. Our marine biologist will lead classes and labs on a variety of marine-related subjects, and take you kayaking, swimming, and snorkeling. This voyage of discovery will be an adventure to remember!

In this camp, participants will be given more control of the ship and will become a part of the working crew. Participants will be organized into professional crews and will learn to stand night watch, drive and work the ship, and will also enjoy snorkeling and kayaking off Catalina Island. This camp focuses on teamwork, leadership, and discovery through a series of tallship challenges. Previous sailing experience is not required.
