Tall Ships at the Ocean Institute

 A tall ship is a large traditionally rigged sailing vessel. Popular modern tall ship rigs include topsail schooners, brigantines, brigs and barques.
The Ocean Institute maintains two tall ships, the brig, Pilgrim, and the Spirit of Dana Point, an accurate replica of a 1770's privateer used during the American Revolution. This year, the Ocean Institute celebrates its 24th year as host of the Toshiba Tall Ships Festival, the largest annual gathering of tall ships on the West Coast.

A Whale's Tale Sailing Adventure

Pyrate Adventure Sail
Experience the thrill of sailing a tallship as you discover the real pirates of Dana Point. Hoist sail, fire the cannons and fight off pirates during this family-fun adventure on the high seas!
Coastal Odyssey
Set sail aboard the schooner Spirit of Dana Point and experience California from the perspective of an early tallship explorer! During this afternoon adventure you will travel back in time to discover the remarkable history of our spectacular coast. Join the crew to help raise sail, handle lines, and steer the ship, or simply sit-back, relax and enjoy the majesty of sailing the seas aboard a tallship. Light refreshments included.
