The Toshiba Tall Ships Festival started in 1984 and is the Ocean Institute’s premier annual event, drawing thousands to Dana Point’s beautiful harbor.  This festival celebrates the return of the brig Pilgrim from her annual summer sail as an ambassador of good will for the City of Dana Point and the Ocean Institute.

Tall Ships America’s TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® is an annual series that rotates on a three-year cycle between the Atlantic Coast, Great Lakes and the Pacific Coast. Since 2001, Tall Ships America has coordinated more than 87 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® events in 54 cities, attracting more than 22 million visitors and stimulating in excess of $1.8 billion in aggregate economic and tourism activity for the host ports.

Event Coverage – Saturday and Sunday

Credentialed media representatives are welcome to cover the event.  Please contact us in advance, so that we can prepare for your arrival, reserve parking spaces for media trucks, and line-up interviews. 

Press Boat – Sunset Parade on Friday evening

Credentialed media photographers and videographers are invited aboard our press boat or Escort Cruise to capture images of the Sunset Parade – a stunning armada of ships sailing down the Pacific Ocean at sunset.
