Environmental Geology Overnight
Grade 6
Seventeen hours, $2750 for up to 45 participants
In this overnight program, students embark on an in-depth exploration of how physical processes and human actions
can alter the surrounding environment. In the lab, students learn about stream structure and dynamics, erosion
processes, local geological history, and longshore transport. Students are prepared for the morning research cruise
through a series of interactive investigations. Students continue through a series of interactive investigations during the evening, including a squid dissection and research cruise preparation. Aboard the R/V Sea Explorer, they take part in data collection at three
designated sample sites. The students examine nitrogen levels, plankton productivity/diversity, and the nearshore benthic
habitat as they move along the transect line from the mouth of San Juan Creek toward a local wastewater outfall. 6th: 1a, e, f; 2a, b, c; 3a; 5a, b, c, e; 7b, d, e
