Field Trips
Gold Digger's Express Sailing Program
Grade 4-5
Three & 1/2 hours, $1225 for up to 45 participants
Students recreate the plight faced by the many people longing to reach the famed gold fields of Northern California in the 1800s. The students must first negotiate for passage with the "ship's agent," convincing him to allow them to work their way as crew. Onboard, the students interact with more historical characters who will guide them in sail handling, navigation, helmsmanship, and other shipboard activities as they learn of the trials and challenges of life in the gold fields and survival at sea. Students actually set sail on a tallship offshore of Dana Point.
