Passage to the Mother Lode

A Day in the ChaparralGrades 4-5
Eighteen hours, $2750 for up to 45 participants

The year is 1849 and the world is abuzz with talk of gold in California! Off to make their fortunes, students will attempt to find a sailing vessel that will take them to San Francisco by way of Cape Horn. Wandering the docks of Boston, fortune hunters are approached by a man calling himself an agent for a shipping company. Is this man a "crimp" who will convince students to sign aboard ship as crew in exchange for passage? In addition to learning valuable skills such as rowing, handling lines and gold-panning, students must decide their fate once they reach California's gold coast.A Day in the Chaparral
