Coastal Explorer Cruise
 Grade 4
(grade 5 adaptable) Two hours, $850 for up to 45 participants ($875 for programs Jan. - June 2008)
Board the R/V Sea Explorer to conduct water quality tests using shipboard equipment. Students study human impact on the local San Juan Watershed, Dana Point Harbor, and the wastewater outfall by collecting sediments from the sea floor and identifying decomposers, assessing biodiversity and counting biological indicator species such as brittle stars. Microscopic plankton reveals producers and consumers, and productivity.
