Sea Floor Explorer Overnight
Grades 6-8
Seventeen hours, $2700 for up to 45 participants
Become sea floor scientists and attend training camp at our seaside Oceanographic
Research Facility! Students are put into challenging research simulations that focus on
coring/micropaleontology, underwater seismology, hydrothermal vent communities, and
underwater archaeology. They also delve into deep-sea technology as they design
and test their own ROV. Training culminates in a morning research cruise on
the R/V Sea Explorer where students use side-scan sonar, a gravity corer,
and our SeaBotix ROV to survey and explore the seafloor.
