Embark on an extra-ordinary seafaring adventure of discovery and experience! Through the use of role-play, students are brought back in time and spend an active day exploring early California history and the life of merchant seaman during the 1800’s. Students spend the first half of the day dockside conducting challenging shipboard activities such as moving cargo, rigging, and rowing. During the second half of their day, the participants head to sea as actual crew on the tallship Spirit of Dana Point. This comprehensive program allows students to take advantage of both the dockside learning opportunities and at-sea sailing experience all in one day!
This program can be adapted to a non-role-play math and physics program.
