Field Trips
Watershed Science Overnight
Grade 5
(grade 4 adaptable), Seventeen hours, $2550 for up to 45 participants
In this overnight program, students set out to explore the science of watersheds. As they learn about marine specimens, soil and water quality, point/non-point pollution, biological indicators, and the water cycle, they examine the complex relationships within our watersheds. Students learn scientific techniques, as they perform a fish dissection, conduct water chemistry tests, work on a biological assessment, and record weather data in our laboratory. Student research teams study the Dana Point Coastal Streams Watershed and present their findings to the rest of the class. In the morning, their land-based examinations are complemented by research activities offshore aboard the RV Sea Explorer.
