Sea of Love: Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Ocean Institute
Dana Point, CA – The Ocean Institute is celebrating Valentine’s Day with its annual “Sea of Love” program on Sunday, February 15, 2015, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Come share the love this Valentine’s Day and learn about relationships under the sea. Find out which animals stay in love forever and which are not so willing to commit to a lifetime of love.
Activities include themed crafts, scavenger hunts, and dissections. Did you know a squid has three hearts? Find out when you dissect one yourself! Guests can make their own ocean-themed valentine and learn about the history of Valentine’s Day. The program is included in paid admission to the Institute ($4.50-$6.50), and free to members. The Ocean Institute is an ocean education center that offers in-depth Marine Science, Maritime History and Outdoor Education programs. The facility includes state-of-the-art teaching labs, the Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, two historic tallships, and an oceanographic research vessel. Immersion-based field trips range from one-hour science labs to multi-day programs at sea. All programs are designed to maximize immersion, spark curiosity, and inspire a deep commitment to learning. Ocean-based exhibits are open to the public seven days a week. Visitors can explore the underwater world while participating in fun activities designed to indulge ocean curiosity. Throughout the year, the Ocean Institute also offers organized family programs, summer camps, cruises, tallship sails, and other unique events including our annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival and the Festival of Whales.
