Time With Our Teens

As I was reorganizing materials from the Tall Ships Festival I came across a wonderful series of sketches of the festival, mermaids, and more. I decided to investigate and track down the artist, our own Public Programs Docent Volunteer Kira Kiwano. I asked her to write a bit about herself to include with her sketches.

Maritime Barn  Mermaid and Friends

“My name is Kira Kawano and I am a junior at Canyon High School. I am on the varsity track team and am very involved within my school. I am on board for 4 different clubs, and I love helping out in the community. I’m pretty busy, balancing my academics, sports and social life, but in the free time that I have, I enjoy taking out my sketchbook and letting my creativity flow. I have had a strong passion for art at a young age. I was the kid that would get in trouble for doodling all over their homework. Fast forward to today, and I’m still drawing whenever I can. It is such a great way to express myself in ways other than words or actions; to convey messages and emotions on a deeper level. Art has helped shape me into who I am today, and I’m hoping I will be able to continue it in my future.”

A huge THANK YOU to all who volunteered at our Tall Ships Festival! We all so appreciate your time. We couldn’t put on great programming, festivals, sails, and classes without your awesome volunteer support.

Thank You,
