Junior Board of Directors

Junior Board of Directors

Ocean Institute is pleased to announce recruitment for our inaugural Junior Board of Directors (JBD). The purpose of the JBD is to support engage early/mid-career professionals in a pathway toward Board of Director participation at the Ocean Institute or other non-profits. In addition to gaining insights and skills related to board participation, JBD members will apply their own expertise and skills to support the mission of Ocean Institute: Using the Ocean as Our Classroom, We Inspire Children to Learn.

The JBD will meet no more than 6 times a year, usually paired with an Ocean Institute event to enable JBD members to participate. The proposed schedule for 2020 is as follows:

Date                            Related Ocean Institute Event

Jan (TBD)                   Shark Bites: Unveiling of the Sahm Marine Education Center

March 27th                  Jazz Festival (Friday)

June (TBD)                 Summer Kickoff

September 11             Tall Ships Sails n Ales

October (TBD)            Volunteer Holiday Party

December (TBD)        Ocean Institute Holiday Party

*NOTE: Meetings will also be run via zoom for those who need to participate remotely

In addition to becoming an ambassador for the Ocean Institute the JBD will be tasked to support the design and development of one event annually that aligns with and ignites participation of early-mid career professionals.

The Junior Board of Director participants will be expected to give-or-get $1000 annually. Ideally, $500 is due upon induction and the remaining $500 can be contributed over the following 6 months. Should the initial $500 be prohibitive, arrangements can be discussed.

Junior Board members will receive:

  • Ocean Institute “Swag” (Name tag, hat, t-shirt, etc.)
  • One ticket to the Jazz Festival Friday event
  • One ticket to Sails n Ales and two tickets to the Tall Ships Festival
