Family Field Trip
Watershed Lab & Cruise

Post

Just because school is out doesn’t mean the learning has to stop.

Bring the whole family to experience one of our most popular school programs: Watershed Science. Adults and children will be immersed in our hands-on activities that are both educational and engaging for all.

Program Overview:

Begin the day in our lab exploring the science behind watersheds. Using scientific techniques, families will perform a fish dissection and water chemistry tests to discover potential sources of pollution in our harbor. Complete the lab by learning about the hydrologic cycle and the importance of a healthy watershed using a groundwater model.

After the lab, jump onboard the R/V Sea Explorer to learn how about offshore nutrient levels, collect a mud sample and identify local plankton. Understanding of our watershed will come full circle with a hands-on demonstration to show the effects of human impacts.
