GIOS Committee Application
Be a part of the Conference
Interested in being a leader? Love science? Join the Girls in Ocean Science Committee and help shape our conference.
Created in 2005, the Girls in Ocean Science Teen Conferences (GIOS) bring together female scientists and young women to inspire students pursue careers in the fields of science. A critical part of the conferences is the GIOS committee, a group of high school students, responsible for the planning and coordination of the conference. The GIOS committee oversees the entirety of the conference from the catered food to electing and inviting an array of female scientists.
Submit an application via the Ocean Institute website by Wednesday, August 15.
Select candidates will be notified of an in-person interview to take place the week of August 20.
Committee members are expected to attend monthly meetings at the Ocean Institute in addition to completing projects at home.
Committee members must be present for both conferences scheduled for February 16 and March 16, 2019.
Any young women accepted into the committee will read and sign an agreement which outlines the responsibilities and the expectations of the commitment. The inability to fulfill these expectations will result in termination from the committee.
